These are the books that came in this week from my recent ordering spree. Just more stuff to add to the apocalyptic warlord library. If you have any books you would like to recommend please feel free to share them.

Interesting. I have a stock of ancient and heritage grains (including einkorn), many of which I obtained from the Canadian seed bank as samples and then grew them out into larger quantities over a number of years.

I just bought this book and are about half way through.
You may be familiar with Jon Hollerman as the nuclear emp and electrical grid guy. Lots of interviews with him on Youtube.

This book does a deep dive into just how vulnerable the electrical grid is, and what will happen if it even goes down regionally.

It then goes into popular strategies for prepping that won't work and why they won't work.

He goes into some tactical topics like gear and storagbe food.

He also goes into detail about how to go about establishing a "tribe". How to vet prospects without disclosing too much etc.

It's not a perfect fit for the 0bserver scenario, but there is a lot in this book that translates well, because it is focused on a permanent grid down / civilization ending context.

This week I'm reading the second book in Jon Hollerman's series:

If you have studied the Chinese famine, the Holodomor, the Balkan war, the Minnesota starvation experiment, and know about things like the siege of Siege of Leningrad (which my Russian teacher at high school lived through and shared his accounts) then this book really doesn't have a lot to offer.

If however, you have not studied human suffering and psychology, then this book is an excellent place to start, because it provides excerpts and from more in-depth books and presents the harsh reality of what we're facing based on recent historic events in a way that is direct, albeit shocking.

It isn't all doom ang gloom, but takes an "eyes open, no fear" approach to preparing yourself mentally for what's coming, and therefore anticipate, and potentially navigate, the first 2 years post solar kill shot.

I've been to Leningrad, and the Russians have never forgotten that horror. I can't remember how many died, but it was so many that my brain couldn't really wrap around it. Places and events have energetics, and Leningrad felt like deep suffering.

Do you also recommend his first book?

His first book covers everything he talks about in his interviews and refers to his free "Grid Down: Death of a Nation Report" found here:

So if you are familiar with these then roughly half of the book will not be new informational, although it does provide references to historical resources like specific senate committee hearings which would otherwise be very difficult to find.

The remainder of the book goes into basic prepper gear, bug out bags, and strategies which had pieces of useful information but a lot of it is standard best practice kind of stuff.

All in all, it's a good book as an intro to permanent end of the world preparedness because it highlights the major differences between that scenario and standard disaster preparedness best practice that you get you killed in a permanent grid down. It goes into rationalizing the preparedness mindset, and introducing the reader to some basic human psychology and behavior which fundamentally changes how preppers should approach the discipline.

One thing I really liked, was his emphasis on there being no single best preparedness strategy because the context of where and how you live means everything.
