After the steam engine Joseph Sterling invented the heat engine. Steam requires high heat, clean water and maintenance.
Sterling engine needs heat (or cold) The temperature difference drives the engine. Yes a warm cup of coffee or a hand can run a sterling engine. Very little heat in, means very little heat out. Great heat in, means great heat out. Enough to drive a submarine underwater for weeks. Nuclear waste would be perfect for this.

The video shows the Gamma version of the engine. It is pretty wasteful in my opinion. However running a Arduino computer from a oil lamp works. Gives me hope.
