I used to talk about my preps. More and more people said "If there is a emergency, I'm coming to your home. " That was a compliment at first. They did not follow suit. No one prepped or did so in a small way. Then one afternoon the Lady running the Emergency operations center said the same thing: "If there is a emergency, I'm coming to your home."

That is when I shut up.
No more talk. Time to go dark, time to be 'grey man'
I still give preps as presents or wedding gifts. It was a blended family. Both had kids. Nice gas grill with extra tanks means they will not go hungry (nor without clean water during a boil advisory)

There are other lists preppers are kept on. No one asks; no one tells - you just get added & profiled. Those are sales receipts. Which videos you watch.
Just be aware. When food runs out, will the government come and take what they can find for the greater good? Not sure. Split the pantry up.
 
It's hard to go 'grey man' - I wonder if the type of stuff I buy, even just stocking up on regular food, makes me wonder if times get lean, is the government going to come calling? I suppose I should use more cash instead of cards. What will we do when cash is no longer accepted?

Cindy, it can be hard. Even in the H1N5 bird flu pandemic Health and human services did, government confiscation came up several times.
Yes use more cash. Restaurants, small movie theaters and some other stores offer discounts for using cash. We have a pizza place that is CASH ONLY.

Use cash for as long as possible. Then go to bartering. Skills and tools should get you through. Silver is good. Some people use Goldbacks but I have not fully bought into that.
