Does anyone in the group own a larger than normal 3D Printer? Creating objects that may melt due to metal content may prove wise if we can create them from durable plastics before the great melting. I’ve been considering getting into smelting for some time. I’d like to have most everything needed beforehand and store some smaller metal objects in plastic containers, but I’ve also been contemplating making large casting molds and keep say a whole hit and miss engines in parts within a number of molds, so that when everything does melt, the items held within their molds should maintain their true forms. Originally, when starting this paragraph, I mentioned the 3-D printer which I think would be a great idea to create a number of sections of interlocking Archimedes screws, which are used for moving water from a low place to a high place or if left in a current could be used to generate electricity, if you also saved an alternator generator and some batteries within some type of plastic containers to shield them from the sun. It was early hit and miss engine’s were pretty much run on just about any combustible fuel, and if you worry about when the fuel runs out for most people, you can always make your own fuels from various vegetable plants like corn, sugarcane potatoes, and so many other crops.

On a sidenote, if you know that all the metal is going to melt at some point, it might make sense to store within your compound a set of crucibles filled with the various metals you might hope to retain and later somehow refined into either whatever tools wire or other useful object, you deem necessary for survival. So when the great melting comes all of that metal get super heated, but within the crucial that you could later on heat within a fire and then pour it into molds.

If you’re looking to store precious metals, even after everything flips, it might make sense to have a couple extra small crucibles just for that and store them in a safe place otherwise we may want to consider items like that dipping them into some sort of liquid latex, and then again storing them within a plastic container like a tote
