8 yo black lab. Surgery for bladder stones, (will discover what TYPE of stones tomorrow) Spring 2026. This morning blood in his urine. * This is not my dog, but I do have some influence with his daddy.
  • Discovered Chanca Piedra is safe for dogs, but not tincture. And not hydrangea which normally comes along for the ride.
  • Gave him 1 dose of Homeopathic Cantharis.
  • Made a "Treat" of : Cranberry, Blueberry, Raw ground beef, Parsley, Turmeric, Ginger, Rosemary, powdered beef broth, ACV. For medicine, he seemed to like it a lot. However, if his stones are the oxalate type, then he can't have turmeric and ginger.
  • Also gave him an Emotion Code treatment. (Wishy-Washy)
Inviting any and all criticism and suggestions for how to proceed tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
 
Learned the stones last time were Struvite, Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate. So huge probability that it's the same issue again. And that makes him Alkaline. The goal is to acidify with extra protein and all the oxalate antioxidants are FINE. :)
I got a bladder support supplement at tractor supply, and he was already acting perky and playful for the first time in weeks after a bunch of his special home made meat treat.
I also found some glycerite (cuz no alcohol for pups) cranberry and horsetail. I'll add those to his food. And prayer of course. He's such a sweet boy. Still feel like I need to get some chanca piedra glycerite, but won't find in a town of 5000 I guess. Glad the grid isn't down yet!

You probably won't like my reply but I say get a urinalysis. While he has that bladder stone history, he could also have a UTI. A U/A shouldn't be too expensive and if there's no bacteria, at least that's ruled out. Many years ago, my dog had blood in his urine, and it turned out to be prostate cancer. The point is, we don't know what we can't see. Right now we can get veterinary diagnostics. Once we have a diagnosis, we can choose how to treat it.

That being said, I'm sure you'll put him on a kickass nutritional regimen once you find out what type of stones he had! I need to go to your house when I'm sick!

I completely agree that it's great to have modern diagnostics while we can. We did take the pup in to the vet a few days ago. Total bill was $500 for xrays (showing no stones), UA, showing a UTI and antibx. He's on the road to recovery with that as well as all the basic supplements I had outlined above. And turns out he's 10, not 8!
