Welcome!
My name is Bud Carlson, and I'm one of the moderators of the Space Weather News - Global Facebook group.
Social Media platforms have their advantages (ease of use, popularity) but they also have their detriments. We decided to create this platform so that everyone can engage in discussion in a more "off-grid" fashion.
This site has a public-facing area as well as private areas for verified Observers. We plan on keeping the latter limited to people who have been personally vetted as "real people" and dedicated Observers who wish to connect with other such people, without having to pay a monetary fee to do so.
This site uses Xenforo, the most popular forum software available. I have set up and operated several Xenforo forums, and I maintain my own server (it's a VPS in a data center, not sitting next to me).
Please feel free to register a profile! A few points to note:

- Registrations are manually confirmed, so you may have to wait a bit before you can post.
- If you use a generic email (gmail, hotmail/microsoft, aol, yahoo, apple/mac/icloud) you will want to figure out the process for "whitelisting" and add this website to that list. These services are notorious for putting forum emails into junk/spam/filtered folders.
- You can use your real name if you wish. This helps people figure out who you are if you are also on social media.
- You can choose a "handle" if you don't want to use your real name
- For your location, I would recommend your state/province + country at a minimum, but that's completely up to your comfort level
